Converting your Aga cooker to controllable electric is one of the most effective ways to reduce your running costs and move towards a greener way to run your Aga Cooker - all whilst keeping your traditional, 'British-Made' Aga Cooker.
At Saltire Cookers, we can convert fossil fuel Aga cookers to electric using our two main systems: The ElectricKit Classic and The ElectricKit Advanced.
These are the two leading independent conversion systems available and with hundreds of conversions under our belts, we can offer honest advice and find the perfect one for you. If we don't think they're a right fit for you, we'll tell you why and offer alternatives!

There are currently no 'official' retrofit conversions available from AGA Rangemaster.
How Do Electric Aga Conversions Work?
The ElectricKit Conversions use multiple electric elements above and below each oven, and inside each hotplate, to give you full control over your temperatures, running costs and ambient heat into the room.
The heat is regulated by thermostats or thermocouples, to give you visual temperatures in each zone of your Aga (a major step forward for owners of older fossil fuel models!).
With the Classic system you have a more stripped back, manual system, with physical control dials and limited tech inside.
With the Advanced system, you have a full touchscreen panel with hotplate temperature failsafes, automation and full WiFi integration for remote control of your cooker via your mobile phone.
The conversions use the original cast iron ovens, meaning you'll still get that iconic Radiant Heat cooking that Agas are known for.
What Are The Main Advantages?
When you're considering converting to ElectricKit, the main advantage is controllability.
With the multi-element design, you can turn parts of your cooker on/off whenever needed, as well as up/down in temperature. This makes managing your room heat and (more importantly) your running costs, much easier. No more 'summer ovens' or scrambling for the air fryer whenever your Aga turns your kitchen into a sauna!
Another reason why we're converting more Aga Cookers than ever before, is sustainability.
More and more fossil fuel Aga owners are moving towards electric from an environmental perspective. With fluctuating oil prices and the rise in solar arrays and battery storage, the move towards electric is appealing for many across the UK.
Nowadays, the need to have all of your ovens and hotplates on 24/7 is rare - after conversion, most Aga owners utilise the top right-hand oven for day-to-day use, as it's controllable in temperature, as well as the popular Induction Hob Upgrade for the left-hand boiling plate. You also have the choice of running all the ovens and hotplates constantly if preferred.
Reliability is another big advantage when it comes to the ElectricKit Conversion.
Over the years, we've had very few issues with component failures, with the most common being hotplate thermostats on older systems. These could burnout when users accidentally left them on a high heat with the lid closed. The ElectricKit Advanced has a hotplate temperature reduction failsafe, which automatically turns the hotplates down to boiling temperature if they're accidentally left higher.
What Are The Main Considerations?
The main consideration with the ElectricKit Conversions, is the reduced ambient heat into the room.
These systems are designed to be as efficient as possible, meaning less heat is 'lost' from the ovens and hotplates into the room.
Inside the cooker, the standard vermiculite insulation found in older Aga Cookers is upgraded to high-performance kiln-grade ceramic fibre blanket. Although you can leave your ovens and hotplates on for more heat into the room, when compared to the oil, gas and 'always on' electric models, there will be a noticeable reduction in the ambient heat radiating from the cooker.
The other consideration is the element setup of the ovens.
The top right oven has two heating element - a small one above, and a large one below. The size and power of the bottom element means that heat will naturally travel down into the oven below when the top oven is on (even if the bottom oven is turned off). This is sometimes seen as a positive, as you can use this heat without powering additional elements, and in turn, increasing your running costs.
As a rough guide, your bottom right oven will be a maximum of 30% cooler than your set top oven temperature. The longer your top oven is on, the more heat will build in the oven below. You can always boost this temperature if needed, by turning the bottom oven on, or reduce this temperature by opening the door to let excess heat escape, then utilising your cold plain shelf at the top of the bottom oven (to slow down the heat transfer from the top oven).
Alternatively, you could choose a lower temperature for your top oven.
The ElectricKit Classic
Conversion for Aga Cookers.
The ElectricKit Classic is the more stripped back, less tech-heavy option in the ElectricKit Conversion range.
Available for most models of Aga Cooker, this system is best for those who prefer less technology, and manual control dials without losing the flexibility of the multi-element design.
It has individual electric heating elements inside each hotplate unit and above/below the cast iron ovens.
The hotplates are regulated by thermostats, which means they must be manually turned lower than simmering temperature (or off) when the lid is closed, to prevent issues.
The ovens will heat to baking temperature in approximately 50 minutes from cold, and the hotplates will take approximately 15 minutes to heat to simmering temperature from cold. You can choose to upgrade your control panel to allow WiFi control of your ovens, or upgrade your boiling hotplate to an induction hob.
The ElectricKit Advanced
Conversion for Aga Cookers.
The ElectricKit Advanced is the most popular choice, and has a full touchscreen control panel, integrated WiFi control and visible temperatures for each zone of your Aga.
This system is best for those who prioritise potential ambient heat, controllability and fast heat up times.
As with the older 'classic' system, it has individual heating elements inside the hotplates and above/below the cast iron ovens.
The hotplates have a larger surface area and heat up faster than the Classic version. They will automatically turn themselves down to boiling temperatures if accidentally left at a higher temperature.
From cold, the ovens will heat to baking in around 50 minutes and the hotplates will reach simmering in approximately 10 minutes. You can upgrade your hotplates to induction, ceramic or twin higher-power versions. There is also an external screen upgrade, which is designed to sit on your worktop, giving you easier access to control your Aga.
On 4-oven models, you also have the option of upgrading your two left-hand ovens to allow up to roasting temperatures in each, with an on/off warming plate or a twin-zone ceramic hob unit on top.
What Happens During an Aga Conversion?
As part of the conversion process for existing Aga Cookers, your Aga is stripped down before being rebuilt with the new system inside. Our engineers arrive onsite and carry out the conversion in a single day.
For customers choosing one of our Reconditioned Aga Cookers, the conversion is carried out as normal, during the initial build of your Aga Cooker.
We recently converted an old Oil Aga Cooker to our ElectricKit Advanced System (with external screen) and we thought we'd give you a sneak peak of the conversion process!
- We arrive in the morning and prep the space with dust sheets, tools, dust extractors and industrial hoovers.
- The top of your Aga Cooker is removed and loose-fill insulation hoovered out.
- The Aga Cooker is stripped down to bare bones, ready for conversion to Electric.
- Your cast iron ovens are slightly modified for the Electric System thermostats etc.
- The Aga Cooker is then rebuilt piece by piece, incorporating the new electric elements inside.
- A new insulation blanket is wrapped around the ovens to minimise excess heat loss and maximise efficiency.
- Your new ElectricKit Conversion is tested before we start our walkthrough guide of the system, with a Q&A session included, to make sure you're confident on using your new Electric Aga Cooker!
Other Electric Conversion Options
Conversion for Aga Cookers.
Whilst ElectricKit is our primary conversion system, we also offer two further options depending on your needs:
eControl is an alternative multi-element electric conversion system, available as the Series X and Series X2. It uses a slightly different element arrangement, with generally larger wattage elements. Running costs are broadly comparable to ElectricKit, with slightly faster response times. eControl may be the right choice for customers who prioritise heat-up speed and modern interface design. The main consideration with eControl is the reliability in comparison to ElectricKit.

13amp 'Always On' conversion is the simplest and lowest-cost electric option. Rather than a flexible multi-element system, it replaces the oil or gas burner with a single electric element that maintains the cooker at a constant temperature - just like a traditional Aga, but on electricity. There is no independent oven control and no scheduling, but it's the right choice for customers who want the traditional always-on Aga experience with lots of ambient heat, at the lowest conversion cost, and who have no need for flexibility.

How Much Does an Electric Aga Conversion Cost?
Prices are correct as of July 2026, and include 20% VAT
An ElectricKit Classic conversion starts from £3895, and £4395 for an ElectricKit Advanced conversion.
Our 'Always On' 13amp conversions start from £2995 and eControl conversions start at £4795.

How Much Do Electric Conversions Cost To Run?
Based on the current OFGEM rate of 24.67p/kWh (April 2026), a 2-Oven Aga with ElectricKit costs approximately £7 per week, when used flexibly once per day.
Running the top oven for 12hrs a day, at 180c (traditional Aga baking oven temperatures) will cost approximately £20 per week, whilst also giving you a rough simmering oven below.
There are no frequent servicing requirements for our Electric Conversion Systems.
Compare these costs with an Oil Aga Cooker, consuming around 40 litres of kerosene per week. At current oil prices (April 2026), that's over £50 per week, and a hefty carbon footprint, with harmful products of combustion and very limited control.

Can any Aga be converted to electric?
Most post-1974 Aga cookers are compatible with ElectricKit Classic and Advanced conversions.
Pre-1974 Deluxe and 'Standard' (Trad) models can also be converted in most cases.
We'll ask for a few photos of your Aga cooker to confirm compatibility before quoting.
Do I need to remove my Aga for the conversion?
No. All conversions are carried out in situ and usually in one day.
Your Aga stays exactly where it is and our engineers arrive to strip it down before rebuilding it with the new conversion system inside.
How do the electric aga conversion systems work?
Your current Aga Cooker will use a single element/burner to heat the whole cooker at the same time. Our controllable systems use multiple electric elements around the cooker to allow independent control of each hotplate and oven.
This flexibility gives you the option of reducing your running costs by turning parts off or down in temperature when they're not in use.
Which conversion system should I choose for my aga?
