Electric Conversions for Aga Cookers

NO FOSSIL FUELS. EASY INSTALLATION. SERVICE-FREE.

Each one of our Electric Conversions are tried and tested throughout the country. We're very lucky to be able to give absolutely unbiased advice, since we offer all three of the main options.

You have the choice of the traditional 'Always On' 13amp system the old faithful ElectricKit System, and the newer, innovative eControl System.

As you can see, there are some differences in the controllability and functions of our Electric Aga Cooker Conversions. We'll list the main ones below:

13amp Electric Conversion

Designed to be 'always on', robust against possible repairs and very easy to use. There is a single thermostat, with a control dial for the electric element. This 13amp system works in the same way as our Traditional Oil and Gas Aga Cookers. Once the controls are set at the correct temperature, the control door can be closed and forgotten about.

ElectricKit Conversion

Manufactured by Oilwarm Ltd, this system uses one main oven element in-between your right hand ovens and one in each hotplate. The Classic Editions includes lower power elements above and below the ovens to help with temperature regulation and improve heat up times.

eControl Conversion

Designed and Manufactured by UK Innovations, this is the best of both worlds really! The oven element placements and power, mimic the traditional Aga Cooker cooking style. You'll still get complete temperature range of each oven and hotplate for reducing running costs even further.

Our Comparison Table

The 13amp Aga Cooker Conversion

Main Cooker Element: 2.5kW

RH Hotplate: Always on @ Boiling Temp

LH Hotplate: Always on @ Simmering Temp

Top RH Oven: Always on @ Roasting Temp.

Bottom RH Oven: Always on @ Simmering Temp (Baking if 4 Oven).

3 Oven LH Oven: Always on @ Baking Temp.

4 Oven Hotcupboard: Simmering and Warming Temperatures.

Original 13amp Aga Cookers were installed with the AIMS system. Our version of the 13amp System removes these PCBs (Circuit boards and constant heat aren't friends!) and we use one thermostat and the element. The simple system mimics the easy-to-use traditional Aga Cookers and makes future repairs less likely to break the bank.

It retains everything you love about the aga, and pairs it with a standard electrical socket (as well as all of the benefits above!). The 13amp Conversion utilises the traditional design of the convection and conduction of heat that the british aga cooker is known for. As the name suggests, a 13amp fused spur socket is required to run the electric element placed inside the burner.

Once the burner has been replaced, ducting is added to improve convection and regulate heat. The outer barrel and ovens are then wrapped with thermal ceramic fibre insulating blanket to retain stored heat and reduce running costs. The vermiculite is filled and the controls are upgraded. Before the top plate is re-seated, the flue is configured and a full width of ceramic fibre blanket is placed underneath to further reduce running costs. You will still retain the ambient warmth from the two hot plates that are on 24/7, and the heat from the ovens/front plate.

There you have it! Your original aga range cooker that you know and love, just improved and more earth-positive.

13amp CONVERSION ADVANTAGES:

  • Designed to be Always On and Ready to Use.
  • Less likely to have expensive repairs.
  • One single household 13amp spur switch required.
  • Lots of ambient heat.
  • Works in exactly the same way as our Oil and Gas models.

13amp CONVERSION DISADVANTAGES:

  • One of our most expensive models to run.
  • 'All On' or 'All Off' operation.
  • No temperature controllability for ovens/hotplates.
  • May have too much ambient heat in warmer months.

The ElectricKit Aga Cooker Conversion

LH Hotplate (1400w)

RH Hotplate (1400w)

RH Top Oven (700w)

Middle Element (1800w)

RH Bottom Oven (500w)

3 Oven LH Oven (1100w)

4 Oven Hotcupboard (550w)

The ElectricKit Original Edition had one main oven element in-between the two RH ovens. When the Classic Edition was launched in 2023, additional low-power elements were added above and below the ovens. Using these 'boost' elements reduces the heat up times and gives you a higher temperature range in the bottom right hand oven - more flexibility is almost always a win!

Due to the positioning and internal electrical components, your aga cooker will need to be fully rebuilt to carry out the conversion. All of the vermiculite is made redundant and therefore removed from the cooker. The cast iron ashpit and outer barrel are no longer required and also removed from the cooker. The top oven is removed and prepared for the ElectricKit conversion. The heating element is placed between the ovens and then Ceramic Fibre Insulating blanket is wrapped around the ovens to retain the heat. The electrics are installed and connected, along with the control panel. The two hot plates are swapped with specially made hot plates with heating elements incorporated inside. The ElectricKit conversion is complete and the aga range cooker is re-assembled!

You're left with your original aga range cooker , plus independently controllable hot plates, ovens and warming cupboard.

ELECTRICKIT CONVERSION ADVANTAGES:

  • Independent control of each hotplate.
  • RH Ovens set with digital temperature display.
  • Ability to keep ovens on 24/7 (perfect in the cooler months).
  • Oven temperature unaffected by hotplate usage.
  • 2 Oven Models only require 2 x 13amp fused spur switches.
  • Induction Hob Available.
  • Wifi Integration for remote ON/OFF functionality.

ELECTRICKIT CONVERSION DISADVANTAGES:

  • Reduced ambient heat - around 30% less than 13amp model.
  • Hotplates can only be left on half power when the lids are down.
  • Grill at the top of the bottom oven due to element placements (the opposite of traditional cooking techniques).
  • Bottom oven will always be at least 35% cooler than the top oven temperature.

The eControl Conversion merges the gap between the controllability of modern range cookers, and the iconic workings of the traditional models. With huge temperature ranges for each hotplate and each oven individually, you have a very efficient electric conversion, with minimal learning curve.

The eControl conversion is by far our most popular conversion. The main advantages with the eControl kit, are the Tri-Element system for even heat distribution and ambient heat, faster heat up times, automatic grilling element and the ECO mode for reduced temperature and running costs.

The eControl conversion can be fitted with a timer to automatically turn the supply on/off via a set schedule, or remotely using WiFi. To ensure an even distribution of heat, the eControl uses 3 elements for the ovens (plus 1 additional element for the 4 oven models and 2 additional elements for 3 oven models), as well as 2 integrated elements inside the hotplates.

As with the ElectricKit conversion, your Aga Range Cooker will need to be completely stripped down and rebuilt as an eControl model. You retain your cast iron ovens but utilise elements placed above the Roasting Oven, in-between the Roasting and Simmering Oven, then below the Simmering Oven. That's why there is limited Learning Curve with the eControl - you can use your Aga Range Cooker like a traditional model without changing your cooking styles too much.

You are left with your original cooker, plus independently controllable hot plates, fully flexible ovens and large temperature ranges. All you could ever need!

ECONTROL CONVERSION ADVANTAGES:

  • Display screens to set each oven temperature.
  • Cooks like a traditional Aga Cooker.
  • Fastest heat up times on the market.
  • Manually set temperatures for each oven.
  • Hotplates can be left on ECO 24/7 for efficiency.
  • Ability to add third party ON/OFF timer to the power supply.
  • Option to add an external fan for assisted oven vent extraction.

ECONTROL CONVERSION DISADVANTAGES:

  • No temperature displays or markings for hotplates.
  • On 4 oven models, the hotcupboard element cassette reduces the space in the bottom LH oven.
  • Inconsistencies with aesthetic aspects - different LED screen light colours, badge colours, matt/gloss displays etc. None affect functionality.
  • Induction hob not yet available, only a ceramic hob (third party induction hobs might be available).
