How to clean your Aga Range Cooker.

A deep clean of your cooker can leave it looking brand new!

*we don't offer cleaning as a service at the moment (keep your eyes peeled!), but the below can help you restore your cooker!*

If you're looking to spruce up your cooker and dream of that sparkle, you're in the right place. The cleaning info below will help you shift that grime to make your Aga range cooker look as good as it used to!  You can pair this with new lids or a new top plate as part of our refurb jobs if your cooker is worse for wear.

Ideally, your range cooker would be switched off for cleaning. Why not bundle this in with your cooker's service and treat yourself to a takeaway!

There are tons of cleaning products out there for ovens but as you know, an Aga Range Cooker is far from a normal oven! We have to be very mindful of the enamel as the wrong cleaning supplies can leave nasty dull streaks on the top or front plate that are impossible to remove and always end up with a complete re-enamelling job to fix.

Please, do not use abrasive cleaners or anything acidic or corrosive on the enamel! This is also why anything tomato-based will permanently stain your enamel if it's not wiped up quickly. We've seen some disasters from using the wrong cleaning products so always check the label before use.  Common 'cleaning catastrophes' include Cilit Bang, Barkeepers Friend and any Limescale Remover.

You'll need some products and tools to get started. We love 'Astonish' cleaning products because they're cruelty-free, vegan-friendly and approved for use on vitreous enamel.  If you'd rather play it safe and get a thorough clean, we recommend our cleaning kit. It includes our Specialist Grime Cleaner Paste, a Razor Blade Scraping Tool, a gentle scourer sponge and our Specialist Chrome Cleaner Paste.

Top and Front Plate

To keep the top looking fresh and shiny, avoid dragging pans between the hotplates or onto the counter. This will scratch the enamel and leave you with dull matt patches across the top.  Wiping the enamel regularly with a warm, damp, soapy cloth then buffing with a dry soft towel will help to keep it sparkling. If you have any stubborn marks, we recommend using our specialist paste and a blade scraper to move those burnt on spots.

Doors

To give the door a refresh, you can carefully lift them off the hinges (using oven gloves) and place them face-down on a towel. Leave them to cool for a bit before cleaning. Wipe the inside of the door (door liner) with a warm, damp soapy cloth. Be careful not to soak the door as it's filled with insulation. Whilst the door if off the hinges, we recommend brushing down the hinges on the front plate - these can quickly fill with crumbs and dust! We actually use a clean, unused paintbrush to get into the crevices and brush it all out. You can do the same to the door catches too. You can also use astonish cleaning paste as a tougher tool in your arsenal!

For harder grease and any burnt of food,  use our specialised paste to soften and dislodge big carbonised deposits then our blade scraper. Afterwards, wipe clean and go over it with an e-cloth specifically for glass if you still have work to do. You can use this method on the front and top plate too. Once it's clean and dry, replace onto the hinges, taking care not to bang or drop the door against the front plate. If you notice any chips, we sell touch up sticks that are perfect for covering them up!

Chrome Lids

The lid domes can be cleaned, again, with a warm damp soapy cloth (wrung out), then wiped with a wet cloth and buffed with a soft cloth. Any cream cleansers or abrasive cleaners risk scratching the chrome so we recommend staying away from these. You can use our specialised chrome cleaner for tougher grease then use the warm moist towel method for daily cleaning. Don't use the blade scraper on the chrome as it'll scratch!

The lids are filled with insulation so you should never submerge them in water. Prevent scratches by investing in hob covers or always using a towel or cloth when resting trays etc on the lids. Please do not rest anything heavy on the domes as they can distort their shape. We've seen lids with permanent bum imprints in them from kids sitting on the top of the cooker!

Ovens

Your ovens are almost "self-cleaning". Any food debris is carbonised due to the constant high temperature. To keep your ovens (and hotplates) clean, you can brush them regularly. Wire racks can be cleaned with cream cleanser or our chrome cleaning paste for any tougher marks.

We always say, treat cleaning your cooker like cleaning your car! Better to be safe than sorry as any mistakes can be costly to fix. If your cooker is beyond saving, consider our top and front replacement service to give it a new lease of life and give yourself a clean slate for an Aga range cooker cleaning routine!
