ElectricKit Conversion for Aga Cookers

TRUSTED. CONTROLLABLE. LOW ENERGY

The ElectricKit is a controllable electric system which can be installed into one of our Fully Reconditioned Aga Cookers, or as a Conversion for your existing Aga Cooker.

The ElectricKit Aga Cooker Conversion (or "Electrikit" as some mistakenly call it!) has been available since the early 2010's.

A revolutionary of its time, the ElectricKit Conversion incorporated electric elements directly next to the Aga cooker ovens and inside the integrated ElectricKit hotplates. These elements allow individual temperature adjustments, control of your running costs and also the ambient heat into the room with the option to leave on constant if preferred.

Each hotplate can be turned up and down depending on the temperature needed. Each can be boiling, or simmering etc. This is done via the full touchscreen display screen.

The right-hand ElectricKit ovens (typically roasting/simmering etc) can be adjusted to a temperature using the display. This shows the target and current temperatures of your ovens, and allows a 'slumber' or 'rest' mode for in-between uses.

The hotcupboard section (simmering/warming ovens) on our 4 oven ElectricKit models are controlled together, via settings 1-8. You can also upgrade this whole section to a 'High Temperature ElectricKit Hotcupboard'. This upgrade allows both left-hand ovens to reach roasting temperature - giving you even more ability for ambient heat into the room.

On our 3 Oven ElectricKit Conversions, the display on the 'classic' system has 4 dials numbered 1-8. One for each hotplate, one for RH ovens, and one for LH oven. The 3 Oven ElectricKit Advanced conversion has a full touchscreen display.

How does the ElectricKit Conversion work?

RH Hotplate Element: 1400w

LH Hotplate Element: 2200w

Induction Hotplate Upgrade: 1.6kW or 3kW

This replaces the left-hand boiling hotplate (under the chrome lid).

Top RH Oven Elements: 700w above & 1800w below.

Bottom RH Oven Elements: 500w below.

3 Oven LH Oven Element: 700w below & 700w above.

4 Oven Hotcupboard Element: 550w

4 Oven High Temperature Hotcupboard: 1800w

Your existing Aga Cooker will move heat from a single source, eg. your oil/gas burner or 13amp element, using a myriad of conductions and air ducts. These are removed during the ElectricKit Conversion process, along with your 'Ash Pit' (a name from the solid fuel days!), outer barrels and cast iron hotplates.

We usually take these away for recycling but you are more than welcome to keep anything you might find a use for.

Once all of the loose-fill vermiculite and the redundant cast iron parts are removed from your Aga Cooker and loaded onto our van, the ElectricKit Conversion can begin!

Your original cast iron ovens are modified slightly to make way for the new ElectricKit thermostats/thermocouples, then rebuilt in place.

The ElectricKit oven elements are placed above and below the ovens, and the new hotplate units are fitted (with their integrated elements).

A new state-of-the-art insulation blanket is wrapped around and above the ovens to reduce excess heat loss and keep your energy bills down.

ElectricKit Conversion - The Pros and Cons

In line with our business ethos of honesty and transparency, we will always give you the pros and cons for your choice of Aga Cooker or Conversion. Being open about the strengths and potential shortfalls of each option, allows us to manage expectations and give you the absolute best solution for your lifestyle.

Considering a conversion for your Traditional 'Always On' Aga Cooker?

We've laid out all the details, pros and cons, as well as technical details you need.

ElectricKit vs eControl Comparison
  • Best track record of reliability when it comes to our conversion systems.
  • Both hotplates can reach boiling temperatures.
  • Full touchscreen control panel or a more basic 'classic' control panel for those who prefer manual dials and less tech.
  • Optional external screen upgrade on our 'advanced' systems, for easier access on the worktop or wall-mounted.
  • Visible temperatures of individual areas of the cooker.
  • Leave your cooker on for ambient heat and convenience if preferred
  • Top Oven at temperature in just 50 minutes. Hotplate at simmering in 10 minutes.
  • Optional Wi-Fi capability for remotely controlling your Aga Cooker, or scheduling on/off periods automatically.
  • Induction and Radiant (Ceramic) hob upgrades available.
  • High-Temperature Hotcupboard available for 4-oven models, allowing roasting temperatures in all 4 ovens.
  • 3 Oven models allow three full roasting ovens when needed.
  • Control your ambient heat in the warmer months by turning your ovens on/off whenever needed.

Disadvantages of the ElectricKit Original:

  • Reduced ambient heat when compared to traditional fossil fuel models.
  • Due to element placement, grilling is best when done at the top of the bottom oven (closest to the largest oven element).
  • For 2 Oven models, your cold plain shelf will be needed to replicate the traditional setup of a Roasting Oven with a Simmering Oven below. You can also reduce the temperature of the top oven to Baking, which will naturally conduct heat into the bottom oven to give you passive simmering temperatures.
  • Some limitations on flexibility and technology in the 'classic' edition.
  • Conversions for existing 3 oven models need to be physically pulled forward by 30mm to accommodate additional heat vents at the back.

We also offer the reliable and extremely efficient Everhot cookers for even lower running costs and stunning design.

The ElectricKit Conversion - Heat Up Times

With your traditional 'always on' Aga Cooker, you don't have to think about heat up times - it's always on! Unfortunately, this means that it's always using energy (even overnight). The ElectricKit Conversion makes your Aga Cooker efficient, giving you the flexibility of turning parts on and off, as well as turning temperatures up and down. If you'd like to turn your ElectricKit Aga Cooker off, or on a more efficient 'slumber' setting, you will need to know about pre-heat times.

Bear in mind, you can utilise a timer to automatically turn your ovens on/off. This way, you won't need to *think* about pre-heating your ElectricKit Aga Cooker! Time it to reach temperature by breakfast, turn off over lunch then back up to full temperature for dinner, before turning off overnight - perfect.

Top Right Hand Oven

When always recommend an induction hob upgrade if you're looking for the lowest possible running costs and instant cooking.

ElectricKit Aga Cooker - Running Costs

As with every Aga Cooker, each one will have its own idiosyncrasies and will run slightly different (one of the joys of individual, non-conventional cookers!). Your ElectricKit Conversion will be similar, with every family having their own lifestyle and habits.

If your main priority is low running costs:

You have the ability to run your Top RH Oven as and when required - even timing them to come on automatically with a timer.

You can use the hotplates as and when required, but they are the most expensive part to run. Utilising the floor of your (already on) ovens will be more efficient - or even better, upgrade to an induction hob for efficient, instant heat!

If your main priority is ambient room heat:

You have the ability to run your ovens 24/7, or just turn your Top RH Oven to a full 'aga' roasting temperature (between 220c-240c), then turn on both hotplates to half heat, with their lids down.

This will increase the ambient heat into the room, but of course, your running costs will also increase when your cooker in on full power.

For a nice in-between, and quicker heat up times, we recommend putting your Top RH Oven into a slumber/simmer temperature (120c-140c) and bringing up to temperature when required.

Running costs will change depending on food cooked, temperature settings and size of room, insulation etc. Use the below as a rough guide (as of April 2026)

Top oven:

Used flexibly (timed to reach 220c for 3hrs): approx 24kWh per week (or £6pw).

At baking temperature (180c) constantly: approx 83kWh per week (or £20pw).

Solid Hotplate:

0.15kW or approx 0.03p per hour. £6pw if left on at simmer constantly.

You can choose to replace your left-hand hotplate with an induction hob for the cheapest hotplate running costs available.
