How Does An ElectricKit Conversion Work?

The ElectricKit Conversion is a controllable electric system, designed to fit into traditional Aga Cookers - turning older 'always on' models into modern, efficient and flexible electric models.
The ElectricKit is available as a standalone conversion service for existing Aga Cookers, or pre-fitted inside one of our Fully Reconditioned Aga Cookers.
Designed by industry experts Oilwarm, located in Devon, the ElectricKit is an independent system which has dominated the conversion market for over a decade. Oilwarm are experts in Aga Conversions and also manufacture the popular "WoodWarm" stoves across the UK and beyond.
How Does It Work?
The ElectricKit system (only suitable for Aga Cookers), uses multiple electric heating elements, strategically placed around the Aga, to offer more control over each 'zone' of the cooker.
The ovens become independently controllable in temperature, with quick heat recovery and the same radiant heat cooking as traditional fuel sources. You can expect heat up times as little as 50 minutes for the top oven, from cold.
The hotplates are both capable of reaching 370c, which is hotter than traditional Aga boiling hotplates (approx 320c). They can be turned off, independently to the ovens, in order to massively reduce running costs, and they heat up in 10 minutes from cold. You can also choose to upgrade to circular induction and ceramic hobs.
Where Are The Heating Elements?
Below is a selection of diagrams, showing the placement of the heating elements on the ElectricKit Advanced System, for the different Aga models. It's helpful to know where these elements are, to manage the heat and understand the heat saturation across the cast iron ovens.
For the right-hand ovens, the top and middle elements heat the top oven. When this oven is on, both elements will be engaged, until it reaches your chosen temperature. Heat will naturally transfer down into the oven below, due to the close proximity of the two ovens - so if your top oven is set to 180c, you'd have temperatures of approximately 125c in the oven below (even if it's turned off).

What is involved in the process?
If you're converting your existing Aga Cooker to ElectricKit, the process will be as follows:
- Your Aga is stripped down piece by piece.
- All of the internal loose-fill insulation is removed.
- Redundant burners, cast iron conductions and hotplates are removed.
- The ovens are slightly modified to accept the new thermostats/thermocouples.
- Your cooker is rebuilt, using the same ovens, with new insulation blankets, heating elements and hotplate units.
- We'll walk you through the new system and how it works, before giving you a chance to ask any questions you like.
If you're purchasing one of our Reconditioned Aga Cookers, already fitted with ElectricKit, the process will be similar:
- We'll arrive onsite and start the build, from the ground up.
- Once your base is levelled, the Aga is assembled piece by piece.
- The original cast iron ovens are installed, with the new heating elements.
- New insulation blankets are wrapped around the ovens to preserve heat and improve efficiency.
- Controllable hotplates and/or induction hobs are fitted, under the traditional chrome lids.
- Your cooker is switched on and tested, before we give a thorough walkthrough and Q&A session.
